What we have achieved

SHDF has established firm club structures at club, ward, district and provincial levels coordinated by highly skilled facilitators who are strategically stationed at current in Lupane, Zhombe, Gwanda, Buhera and Seke. SHDF has also signed Memorandum of understanding with all districts that it operates in which enhances its working relationship with the local authorities in the districts.

SHDF, by imparting technical skills, provided women with a piecemeal solution, it launched a women’s rights project with a gender approach. Setting up of 72 functional taskforce committees in 15 districts in Matebeleland North & South, Midlands and Masvingo that led to construction of a clinic in Chivi, Gororo ward; mother’s maternity waiting room in Hwange, Mabale; classroom blocks at Hwendedzo, Masvingo; secondary school classrooms, toilets in Mzwanyana, Bulilima; and other issues such as access to education by mother in Lupane and Masvingo. These actions were even replicated in other districts like Buhera, with strongest VSALS (Village Savings & Lending Schemes) have constructed fully fledged bakeries, managed and owned by women; Guruve women are now active traders in the Kapenta industry after having participated in club exchange visits facilitated by SHDF-TAS in 2010.

The on-going awareness-raising and capacitating communities through participatory approaches, engaging them in decision making processes in the various economic, social and political issues that affect them promotes ownership, self reliance, and sustainability of their own advocacy actions.
